Sometimes You Just Need to Play

It’s been about a week and I am still enjoying the same YouTube video. Let me create a visual for you. Two news anchors, a commercial break and a 3 Stooges inspired “routine.” For your viewing pleasure, I will try to embed the video at the end of this blog post.

Having read the comments made on this video, there are those who dislike this video. They think it’s childish, and stupid. There have been statements made alleging the news anchors in the video, are sleeping together. I will most certainly not touch those comments. Instead here is my view on “What News Anchors Do During Commercial Breaks.”

It is purely a stress reliever. Journalism is a high stress job. Long hours, little pay and deadlines from all sides describe a typical day. As far as TV news goes, it’s far from easy. When it comes to anchoring a newscast, it’s the hard news that must be reported on first. By that first commercial break, I bet the on air personalities are in need of some way to chill. Well co-hosts Jackie Bange and Robert Jordan Jr. have come up with a way to do just that; chill for a minute. For two minutes and forty seconds, they fire imaginary bazookas, hit invincible baseballs and do a mini Egyptian dance. When the commercial is over, they easily don their serious face and the newscast continues.

Of course not all news anchors, or other journalist types, act in this way. Whatever works best for the journalist in question, that’s what matters most. If it doesn’t hurt anyone, who’s to say it’s wrong to do?  I for one find this video very funny. I’m not ashamed to admit I added the video to My Favourites on YouTube. Relieving stress is always a good thing.
